Leigh Slayden: Artist's Statement

A lifelong artist, I spent years mastering oil colors, Like the impressionists of the 19th century, I love to share my process and vision with the viewer with distinctive brushstrokes, mixing colors on the brush or the canvas so that your eyes are doing the blending. I further share my painting process through social media, uploading stages from a few marks on blank canvas through the puzzling first stages and the emergence of a beautiful image.

Currently I paint the beauty of nature and our mesmerizing history in architecture and ruins, but my early work focused on the human figure. I've been recognized with an art degree, public arts grants and, more recently, juried shows in my new home of St. Augustine, Florida.

But the recognition I value most is you, the viewer & collector, stopping by as I paint in plein air...visiting this virtual gallery...or commissioning me to create a custom painting.  Thank you, and welcome.
